Campfire Cooking: Skillet S'mores – A Campfire Favourite

As the crisp autumn air rolls in and the leaves begin to fall, there's no better way to embrace the season than with a cosy campfire treat. Skillet S'mores are the perfect autumn twist on the classic, offering the warmth and comfort of gooey marshmallows, melted chocolate, and crunchy biscuits- all prepared together in one skillet over the fire. Whether you're gathering around with friends or enjoying a solo outdoor evening, this recipe is sure to make your autumn nights even sweeter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of large marshmallows
  • 1 bag of milk chocolate chips (or chocolate bars, broken into pieces)
  • 1 sleeve of digestive biscuits (broken into bite-size pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • A cast-iron skillet

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Skillet: Place the skillet over your campfire to preheat, or use a camping stove. Add the butter and let it melt, coating the bottom of the skillet to prevent sticking.
  2. Add the Chocolate: Once the butter is melted, sprinkle the chocolate chips or pieces of chocolate bars evenly across the bottom of the skillet. Let it sit for a minute to start melting.
  3. Add Marshmallows: Top the melted chocolate with a single layer of marshmallows. You can arrange them neatly or just pile them on for that rustic campfire look.
  4. Cook Over Fire: Hold the skillet over the campfire, making sure it’s not too close to avoid burning. Alternatively, place it on a camping grill over the fire. Let the marshmallows toast to a golden brown and the chocolate melt underneath. This should take around 5-10 minutes.
  5. Serve with digestive biscuits: Once the marshmallows are perfectly toasted and the chocolate is gooey, remove the skillet from the heat. Serve with digestives for scooping up the chocolatey, marshmallow goodness.

Tips:

  • Rotate the skillet occasionally for even heat distribution.
  • If you want to get creative, you can add toppings like peanut butter, caramel, or crushed nuts.

Enjoy your Skillet S’mores under the stars—it’s an easy, crowd-pleasing campfire dessert that’ll have everyone coming back for more!
